Overview
Journey to the remote shores of Lake Tanganyika for chimpanzee tracking in Gombe National Park, the forest made famous by Jane Goodall's pioneering research. Travel by air to Kigoma and by boat across the lake, then explore Gombe's steep forest trails, Kakombe Falls and Jane's Peak while searching for chimpanzees and other primates. A moderate level of fitness is recommended. Published rates are valid until 31 March 2027 and require a minimum of four guests.

Arrival in Dar es Salaam
Meet your representative at Julius Nyerere International Airport and transfer to your hotel in Dar es Salaam.
Fly to Kigoma and Boat to Gombe
Fly from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma, then transfer by boat across Lake Tanganyika to Gombe National Park. The boat journey takes approximately two and a half hours and offers expansive lake views. After lunch, set out for your first chimpanzee tracking session.
Kakombe Falls, Jane's Peak and Chimpanzee Tracking
After breakfast, hike through Gombe's forest to Kakombe Falls and Jane's Peak. Return for lunch, then head into the forest for a late-afternoon chimpanzee tracking session.
Gombe Forest and Chimpanzee Tracking
Continue exploring Gombe National Park on foot, listening for birds and primates while your guide searches for the chimpanzee community. The forest trails can be steep, and tracking time varies according to the chimpanzees' location.
Return to Kigoma and Dar es Salaam
After breakfast, travel by boat from Gombe to Kigoma and connect with your afternoon flight back to Dar es Salaam.
