Overview
Experience two of Tanzania's rarest wildlife encounters in one journey. Track chimpanzees in the steep forests of Gombe National Park on the remote shores of Lake Tanganyika, then travel to Nyerere National Park for a Rufiji River boat safari, walking safari, night game drive and extensive wildlife viewing focused on the elusive African wild dog. A moderate level of fitness is recommended for Gombe's forest trails. Published rates are valid until May 2027, excluding the festive season.

Day-by-Day Itinerary
Dar es Salaam to Kigoma and Gombe
Fly from Dar es Salaam to Kigoma in the early morning. On arrival, transfer by boat across Lake Tanganyika to Gombe National Park, a journey of approximately two and a half hours. After lunch, set out for your first chimpanzee tracking session.
Kakombe Falls, Jane's Peak and Chimpanzee Tracking
After breakfast, hike through Gombe's forest to Kakombe Falls and Jane's Peak. Return for lunch, then join a late-afternoon chimpanzee tracking session while looking for other primates and forest wildlife.
Return to Kigoma and Fly to Dar es Salaam
Travel by boat from Gombe to Kigoma after breakfast, then connect with the early-afternoon flight to Dar es Salaam.
Rest Day in Dar es Salaam
Enjoy a restful day and overnight stay in Dar es Salaam between the Gombe and Nyerere sections of the journey.
Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park
After a safari briefing, travel through the scenic Kisarawe route toward Nyerere National Park. Arrive at the main gate around midday and enjoy a game drive en route to Nje Bush Camp, where you can relax beside the riverbed and watch the sunset.
Rufiji River Boat Safari and Game Drive
Cruise the Rufiji River in search of hippos, crocodiles, aquatic birds and wildlife gathering along the riverbanks. After a picnic lunch in the bush, continue with a game drive focused on elephant, buffalo, lion, giraffe and African wild dog.
Walking Safari and Night Game Drive
Begin with a guided walking safari alongside an armed ranger, learning about tracks, plants, insects and the smaller details of the ecosystem. After time at camp, depart at approximately 7:00pm for a night game drive and return around 10:00pm.
Fly to Dar es Salaam
After breakfast, transfer to the airstrip for your included flight from Nyerere National Park to Dar es Salaam.
