Overview
Combine three days in the wilderness of Nyerere National Park with five days on Zanzibar's coast. Begin with game drives, a Rufiji River boat safari and a guided walking safari in search of the rare African wild dog, then fly to Zanzibar for Prison Island, Stone Town, a Safari Blue sailing day and time to relax beside the Indian Ocean. Day-by-Day Itinerary
Dar es Salaam to Nyerere National Park
Depart Dar es Salaam after breakfast and travel by road to Nyerere National Park. Enter the park and enjoy a game drive en route to camp.
Rufiji River Boat Safari and Game Drive
Take a boat safari along the Rufiji River in search of hippos, crocodiles, aquatic birds and wildlife gathering on the riverbanks. After a picnic lunch, continue with a game drive focused on elephant, buffalo, lion, giraffe and African wild dog.
Walking Safari and Flight to Zanzibar
Rise early for a guided walking safari with an armed ranger, learning about tracks, plants, insects and the park's smaller ecosystems. Return for breakfast, then transfer to the airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar and continue to your Stone Town hotel.
Prison Island and Stone Town
Visit Prison Island to see its historic buildings and giant tortoises, then return for lunch and a guided exploration of Stone Town's markets, alleys and Swahili heritage.
Safari Blue Island Hopping
Transfer to Fumba for a full-day Safari Blue sailing experience, visiting sandbanks and a lagoon for swimming, with a seafood lunch served along the way. Continue to your beach hotel after the excursion.
Zanzibar Beach Leisure
Spend the day at leisure, enjoying the hotel facilities, swimming or relaxing beside the beach and pool.
